Winning start for Zim

yesterday at the ongoing Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Corporation Organisation Games.
Under the guidance of Black Mambas coach John ‘Toto’ Ncube, who paraded the majority of Mambas players, the Zimbabweans powered to an impressive win.
Midfielder Innocent Nyoni gave Zimbabwe the perfect start with a brilliant strike in the 35th minute.
Namibia’s hopes of any comeback were dashed in the 70th minute when Frank Banda’ first time volley nestled into the top corner.
Assistant coach Peter Phiri was delighted at winning their first game and believes the victory would boost their morale ahead of their second match against hosts DRC this afternoon.
Phiri said they dominated from the first whistle and never took their foot off the pedal.
Phiri singled out captain George Chikweva, striker Sebastian Mutizirwa, Nyoni and Banda for their influential roles.
He criticised the state of the pitch.
Meanwhile the darts team is doing well as they have won three matches at the Grand Seminary.
John Charles, Jameson Ndava, Tapera Makado, Lloyd Muza, Peter Kativhu, Lawrence Moyo, Jimmy Magwai and Joramu Magaya are representing Zimbabwe.
In their first match they clashed with Namibia and won convincingly 32-4. Next they dismissed hosts DRC 35-1 and in the final match of the first round faced rivals South Africa.
The match ended 18-18 and had to be decided by a tie break, as Charles played the tie and won, winning the game 19-18.
The darts team are the defending champions.
In chess yesterday at Grand Seminary, Zimbabwe drew 2-2 with defending champions Angola.
