Winter rain normal – Met Department

Rain fell in most parts of the country over the past few days with some areas recording as much as 32mm.
Mr Zinyemba said the trend was normal as had been recorded in some previous years.

In 1988 some areas received more than 50mm of rain while in 1976 about 56mm were recorded over the same period.
The rains received in most parts of the country so far were higher than rainfall recorded over the same period last.

“Last year we recorded less rainfall than we have done this year. Areas such as Chimanimani received 1,5mm and Chisengu about 4,5mm of rainfall,” Mr Zinyemba said.
Areas which recorded some significant rains this year included Chisenga with 32mm, Zaka and Hwedza 19mm, Chipinge 18mm , Harare and Marondera 17mm.

“Getting rainfall amounts of about 20mm is quite normal and common around this time. It’s not something outside the norm,” the forecaster said.
He urged farmers to take precautionary measures to save their crops from frost.
