The battle for control of properties belonging to the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) took a twist on Wednesday after lawyers representing Reverend Amon Madawo approached the Sheriff of the High Court seeking assistance with evicting Reverend Cossam Chiangwa from a church-owned property in Westgate.

Last year, the Supreme Court ended a years-long battle for control of the church pitting Rev Madawo and Rev Chiangwa’s factions after ruling in favour of the former.

The court barred Rev Chiangwa from accessing or using any assets or property belonging to the church.

Rev Chiangwa’s faction, however, has continued to hold on to some properties, including 696 New Adlyn in Westgate, in defiance of the court ruling.

Through their lawyers, Mtetwa and Nyambirai Attorneys, Rev Madawo’s faction requested assistance with reclaiming the property.

“Whereas Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe obtained an order in the High Court of Zimbabwe on November 10, 2021 against Cossam Chiangwa of No 6 Kremio Drive, Marlborough, Harare, ordering him and those claiming possession through him to be ejected from and out of 696 New Ardlyn, Westgate, Harare at present occupied by the said Cossam Chiangwa and those claiming possession through him,” reads the writ of ejectment.

“Now, therefore, you are required and directed to eject the said Cossam Chiangwa and all persons claiming through him, his goods and possessions from and out of all occupation and possession whatsoever of the said ground and/or premises, and to leave the same, to the end that the said may peacefully enter into and possess the same, and for so doing this shall be your warrant.”
