NEW: ICC suspends Zim U-19 bowler

Zimbabwe U-19 national team bowler Victor Chirwa has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

The 18-year-old spinner was reported for illegal bowling action by match officials in Zimbabwe’s ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup opening match against Papua New Guinea on January 15.

The Event Panel of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup confirmed that the young bowler was using illegal bowling action.

“The Event Panel concluded that Chirwa employed an illegal bowling action and, as such, in accordance with Article 6.7 of the regulations, is immediately suspended from bowling in international cricket,” reads a statement by the ICC.

The Event Panel comprised members of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists.
