WOLVES were recently crowned the Mutare Professionals Soccer League (MPSL) champions for 2023 and the league now looks forward to a bigger and better 2024 season. Mutare Professionals Soccer League comprises parastatal backed clubs and some few social football clubs.
Apart from Wolves Club, recipients of different accolades from the exciting 2023 season include ZIMRA which scooped the most disciplined team, while FACT’s Sylvester Thodhlana walked away with the golden boot award. The goalkeeper of the season award went to Kimberly Seven from Wolves, while the most disciplined player’s award went to Nigel Kanyoza.
MPL chairman, Kanyoza said: “I would like to thank the Lord Almighty for sailing with us through the Year 2023, and wish you a prosperous 2024. As Mutare Professional Soccer League (MPSL), this is also an opportunity to look ahead and determine how best we can create value for the league and social interaction.
“The Year 2023 went on well for MPSL, with Wolves winning the title. We did not have serious injuries in games played within the scope of the league. This was a major development as we always preached the gospel of playing it safe.”
Kanyoza appealed for sponsorship and expressed hope of having more teams coming in to join the league.
“The major challenge that we encountered was sponsorship. We are working flat out to secure sponsorship as the new year commences. We also reiterate the importance of registering players to avoid use of players from higher divisions in our league. We will be strict on that in line with the MPSL constitution.
“At least we managed to open up a bank account for the league for transparency. I would like to give much credit to the 2023 executive committee for the sterling effort.
“It was not easy to spare some time to be committed to the league chores. We also managed to have opening and closing tournaments during the year,” he said.
The MPSL chairman thanked Minister of State of Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Misheck Mugadza for supporting the league.
“We would like to thank Minister Misheck Mugadza as the league’s patron for the support in prizes and being guest of honour at the closing tournament.
“As the name says it all ‘Professionals’, we are professional people who must be serious, disciplined and always guided by ZIFA rules and regulations through social soccer. We look forward to more teams joining the league from the start up to the end,” he said.
Mugadza, who was guest of honour at the end of season awards ceremony, also chipped in with some prizes that were awarded on the day.
