adminPOLICE in Nyanga have launched a manhunt for a 41-year-old man who on Monday allegedly fatally assaulted a woman (59) with a hoe for stealing his goat.
Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda, appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of Mafikini Bondoro of Zenda Village under Chief Katerere to contact their nearest police station.
“We will leave no stone unturned to arrest the criminal. Cutting short another man’s life is unacceptable and abominable,” said Ass Insp Chananda.
It is alleged that on November 9, Mboyi passed through Mafikini’s tuckshop intending to buy something.
Mafikini allegedly demanded his goat from Mboyi saying the latter and her son had connived to steal his goat.
“Mboyi vehemently denied the allegations saying she knew nothing about the whereabouts of the goat. The incensed Mafikini, however, took a hoe handle and assaulted her several times all over her body. She bled profusely and collapsed. Sensing danger, Mafikini vanished from the scene. One unidentified witness tried in vain to save Mboyi who breathed her last a few minutes after the assault,” he said.
The matter was reported at Ruwangwe Police Station.
Mboyi’s body was taken to Nyanga District Hospital mortuary.
Investigations are in progress.
In an unrelated incident, a Chipinge man was slapped with 10 years imprisonment for fatally assaulting his niece.
Elisha Mlambo, who resides at Farm 75 in Chief Mapungwana’s area was convicted by High Court Judge, Mr Justice Charles Hungwe who was on circuit in Mutare last week.
Ms Jane-Rose Matsikidze prosecuted. The court heard that Mlambo on July 25 last year fatally assaulted Elcina Makuyana with a stick several times all over her body following an altercation.
The two resided at the same farm.
“She sustained serious injuries on her faces, hands and thighs. After discovering that he had killed his niece, he fled from the scene.
He left her body under a tree,” said Ms Matsikidze.
The post mortem revealed that he died of cardiorespiratory arrest secondary to spine injury.
In sentencing him, Mr Justice Hungwe said Mlambo’s behaviour was unacceptable in the society and perpetrators should be dealt with accordingly.
