A 26-YEAR-OLD woman from Montgomery in Bulawayo was arrested for assaulting a fellow worker with stones over a US$27 debt owed to her.
Maud Karamu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Challenge Mahembe facing assault charges.
She pleaded guilty to the offense and was lucky to be spared jail time when she was sentenced to perform community service.
“I admit to assaulting the complainant on the forehead, not on the legs. I apologise for my conduct. When I went to ask for my money from the complainant, he groped my breasts while he was in a drunken state. That is the reason why I retaliated,” Karamu said.
Circumstances are that on 23 September 2024, at around 8am in Montgomery, Karamu asked for US$27 from Lincoln Maboto (18), that he owed her but he said he did not have it at the moment.
Karamu was angered upon hearing this, picked up a brick, and hit Maboto once on his forehead and left leg.
The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.
