It takes a whole village to raise a child, goes an African saying.
But that’s not the case for one woman from Mpopoma flats who decided to bash her neighbour for reprimanding her children without her approval.
At first, Chanaka Dhliwayo made it clear that she did not want Gladah Tshini Ndlovu to discipline her children in anyway.
But it was difficult for Ndlovu to adhere to that instruction since Dhliwayo’s children usually went to her house to play with her grandchildren. Whenever they misbehaved she would just scold all of them.
This did not sit well with Dhliwayo, so she ended up insulting and assaulting Ndlovu.
Fearing for her life Ndlovu sought justice from the courts.
“I am applying for a peace order against my neighbour. Whenever I reprimand my grandchildren and her children for misbehaving she comes to my place to insult and assault me. She says I should not reprimand her children because they came out of her privates,” said Ndlovu.
Besides their scuffle concerning the children it seemed the two had other burning issues which were revealed in the courts.
“Dhliwayo also insults my Kalanga culture, accuses me of killing her mother and says I should kill her also if I want to. She accuses me of witchcraft, and she once pointed at my grandchild with a broom saying he had big eyes like a witch. She also dumps rubbish in my yard,” said Ndlovu.
Dhliwayo did not have much to say in response to allegations levelled against her.
“I don’t want my children to be reprimanded by Ndlovu,” she said.
Western Commonage magistrate Urgent Vundla, ordered Dhliwayo to refrain from threatening, assaulting and insulting Ndlovu.
