Woman attacks rival with machete

NOT being able to withstand the fact that her rival had reconciled with her husband led a bitter woman to storm the rival’s home armed with a machete and attacked her with the weapon. Marvellous Magadzike (24) was convicted on her own guilty plea to charges of assault when she appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.

Prosecuting was Mr Donald Mudadirwa.
It was the State’s case that Magadzike attacked Memory Kalakunenda with a machete several times on her left palm and struck her twice on the right leg. Kalakunenda sustained two deep cuts on her palm and two deep cuts on her right leg.

“Kalakunenda heard Magadzike shouting that she had played a big part in having her reconcile with her husband and yet she was backstabbing her.
“Thirty minutes later Magadzike arrived at the complainant’s house with a machete in her hands and struck her twice on her left palm and twice on her right leg resulting in the complainant sustaining deep cuts,” stated Mr Mudadirwa.

Magadzike did not waste the court’s time by admitting to the charges and went on to tell the court that the complainant had provoked her.
“She provoked me Your Worship, ignoring the fact that when her husband had left her I was the one who acted as a mediator and got them back together.
“However, I erred Your Worship and beg for the court’s forgiveness,” she prayed.

Sentence was still to be delivered at the time of going to Press.
