Jackson Kamhunga (41) of Mungate village under Chief Chinamhora has since been arrested in connection with the crime while his alleged accomplice is still at large.
It is alleged Kamhunga and his accomplice waylaid the woman who was coming from the business centre going to her house before grabbing her handbag.
They stabbed her with a knife after she tried to fight them back, it is alleged. Kamhunga was not asked to plead to a charge of robbery in aggravated circumstances when he appeared before magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma.
He was remanded in custody to August 8.
Kamhunga was advised to apply for bail at the High Court due to the gravity of his offence. Prosecutor Mr David Magwegwe alleges that on July 19 this year, Kamhunga teamed up with his accomplice and waylaid the woman, who was coming from Mungate business centre to her house in Chinamhora.
The court heard that Kamhunga suddenly attacked the woman and allegedly grabbed her handbag that was containing $596 and R3 800.
The woman, the court heard, tried to resist by clutching on to her bag. As the woman was fighting back, Kamhunga pulled out a knife and stabbed her several times on the right shoulder, back and on both thighs.
Kamhunga kept on pulling the handbag and the woman was left holding on to the straps, it is alleged. The woman was left lying in a pool of blood and was later helped by a passerby.
