the arrest of Ralph Nicholson (17) and Taylor Cameron (19).
They were at Avondale police cells by yesterday facing attempted murder charges.
Chief Insp Sabau said allegations are that on Sunday night at around 11pm, one of the complainants, who is a male adult, was driving a Toyota Estima along Leopold Takawira Road from the city to Avondale.
“The complainant was stopped by traffic lights at the intersection of Cork Road and King George in Avondale. While there, he heard three gunshot sounds but could not see the person who was firing them.
“Inside his vehicle was a 17-year-old passenger who was hit by one of the shots on the shoulder,” he said. Chief Insp Sabau said the vehicle was damaged on the rear window.
“The injured passenger was rushed to Trauma Centre and was later transferred to the Avenues Clinics where he is waiting for an operation to remove the bullet that was logged in his shoulder.
“The driver proceeded to give a report at Avondale Police station,” he said.
Chief Insp Sabau said while making a report, another man also came driving a yellow taxi and reported that his passenger window had been shot at the same place.
“Policemen reacted swiftly and went to the scene and arrested Ralph and Taylor at a bush near the intersection.
“The two were in possession of a pellet gun and 20 pellets rounds,” he said.
Police also recovered 2.2 mm rifle.
“It was later established that the two firearms belonged to Ralph’s father and Ralph had stolen the gun cabinet keys and proceeded to steal the firearms,” he said.
Chief Insp Sabau said two more motorists went on to report similar cases at Avondale police and another two reported at Harare Central Police Station.
He urged parents and guardians not to expose children to violent films and movies.
“Scenarios like these are caused by parents who leave their children to watch violent films and in turn the children would want to experiment.
“Parents should watch what their children do,” Chief Insp Sabau said.
