A Dangamvura woman who recently secured employment has been struggling to meet her husband’s 5:30pm curfew and has now been turned into his punching bag.

Tafara Pedzisai and her husband, Tom Pedzisai, appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato last week, with the former applying for a protection order against the latter.

Tafara accused Tom of assaulting, insulting and disturbing her peace.

She said she has been married to Tom for 11 years, adding that her husband does not take care of her and their minor child.

“He does not even buy panties for me or clothes for our child. All he is capable of doing is assaulting me, disposing our matrimonial property and using the money to buy beer,” said Tafara.

Tom told the court that the whole issue started when his wife secured employment as a hairdresser.

He said he realised that Tafara had become big-headed, coming home late, associating with single ladies as well as changing her dressing.

He also told the court that he is the one who sponsored his wife’s education, adding that she is now disrepecting him.

“It all started when she secured employment. She is now coming home around 10.30pm and no longer listens to me. She is now associating with single ladies who give her bad advice.

“Her dressing has since changed as she is now putting on miniskirts, yet she is a married woman. I gave her a 5pm curfew, the latest being 5.30pm, but she has been breaching it,” said Tom.

He also accused his wife of promiscuity, basing his argument on some lurid messages he allegedly saw in her phone.

He, however, denied assaulting her.

“I do not beat her because I respect our child,” said Tom.
He said he is willing to fix things with his wife.

However, Tom said while he was not opposing his wife’s application for a protection order, with the order in place, it would be better for them to part ways.

“It will be difficult to stay with someone who has a protection order against me because if l do anything minor or ask her anything, she might frame me just to fix me,” argued Tom.

After hearing both sides, Mr Chipato issued the protection order in Tafara’s favour.

The order bars Tom from insulting and assaulting his wife.
