Woman collapses in court

unconscious.
On regaining consciousness, the woman, who is aged 22 and of Unit K, Chitungwiza, said she was shocked that her husband hired a lawyer after abusing her.
“I am going to commit suicide. How could he ill-treat and infect me with the virus only for him to hire a lawyer to defend him.”
The 38-year-old man appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga and was not asked to plead.
Ms Mariga remanded him in custody to September 17 for trial.
He was asked to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani told the court that in April 2010, the woman fell in love with the man and they started staying together as husband and wife.
They became intimate without the man using protection allegedly knowing fully well that he was HIV positive.
He never told the woman of his status.
She only came to know about it when she picked some tablets in the man’s overall and inquired from her neighbour on what they were for.
The neighbour told her that the husband could be HIV-positive because the pills were for the treatment of the condition.
She was informed that the man’s wife died of the pandemic.
The woman confronted the man who promised to put her on his medical aid, but he failed to do so and she reported the alleged deliberate infection.
