A Harare woman asked the court to order her husband to pay maintenance in US dollars for their three minor children.
Thelma Muchirahondo said her husband, David Ngwena, was neglecting his children and she demanded $200 000 for their upkeep, but wanted it converted to US dollars.
“I want $200 000 for three children since they are all going to school. His children need food, school fees, uniforms and medication.
“My husband goes to South Africa delivering people’s goods, and so he can afford.
“Your Worship, I want the court to order my husband to give me money in US dollars because rates are going up daily,” said Thelma.
In response, David told the court that he is currently unemployed.
“I want to give her US$100 for all children because I don’t work.
‘‘Your Worship, if the court may consider that I am also supporting my blind parents.
“It’s better to transfer the children from a private to a government school. At least I can afford the fees,” he said.
Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Ngoni to pay US$150 and to pay school fees directly to the school.
