A HARARE woman took her ex-husband to the Harare Civil Court claiming US$300 in maintenance for the upkeep of their children.
Constance Mamvura claimed that her ex-husband, Solomon Chiwara, was neglecting his children.
“l am currently not employed and cannot take care of the children alone. He works as a security guard and is also a vendor. He is in a better position to take care of the children,” said Mamvura.
In response, Chiwara said he only worked as a security guard and can’t afford what his ex-wife was demanding.
“My offer is $30 000, plus l have other expenses too. I earn $140 000, yet I need money for rentals and transport to and from work. I am not into vending because after my duty I go home to rest,” said Chiwara.
Mamvura rejected his offer saying he had sold their residential stand saying he wanted to start a business. Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted Mamvura only $50 000 and ordered Chiwara to pay school fees directly to the children’s school every term.
