Yamileth Mercado retained her WBC Super Bantamweight title in a spectacular fight that went to a points’ decision against Kudakwashe Chiwandire in Chihuahua, Mexico yesterday morning.
This was Mercado’s fifth defence of her title, while Chiwandire suffered only the third defeat in her career.
Mercado took the initiative against Chiwandire, who showed one of her main skills – mobility – in the first round of the fight. In the second round, both ‘Yeimi’ and ‘Take Money’ landed some punches on each other to the cheers of the crowd at the Chihuahua venue.
In the third and fourth rounds, the first exchange of blows in the fight took place, as they gave a show to the audience at the Gymnasium of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua.
The bout went to the final round where the judges gave the victory to Mercado.
This was Chiwandire’s 10th fight in her professional career and the first overseas, having previously had only fights in her native Zimbabwe and Zambia where she has a record of six wins, two defeats and a draw. – Tvazteca.com.
