Matabeleland North police spokesperson Sergeant Eglon Nkala confirmed the incident yesterday.
He said Ms Lizzy Mpofu was on her way from church at about 3pm when she met her estranged husband.
“Ms Mpofu met her husband Edmore Nyamazana (31) on her way from church and she was in the company of her friends. The estranged husband then offered to accompany her,” said Sgt Nkala.
He said the two had been having marital problems for a long time, resulting in Ms Mpofu returning to her parents’ home.
“The two left the friends and went their way and no one knows what happened as Ms Mpofu was found dead the following day in the bush,” said Sgt Nkala.
He said a report was made to police at Gwelutshena who attended the scene.
“The body had stab wounds in the head, neck and a knife stained with blood was found next to the body,” said Sgt Nkala.
He said the body was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for a post-mortem and the husband is on the run.
Sgt Nkala urged members of the public to refrain from engaging in violence to resolve disputes as this resulted in unnecessary loss of life. “Villagers should seek assistance from the village head or the police community relations officers,” he said.
Sgt Nkala appealed to anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of Nyamazana to report to the nearest police station.
