The deceased, Tindo Ngwenya, had been left alone at the family’s residence by a 37-year-old woman who went into town at around midday, when disaster struck.
Ngwenya had reportedly not complained of anything.
The woman returned home at around 2pm and found the main door locked.
Asst Insp Ndlovu said the woman noticed that the keys were hanging on the inside of the door.
“She knocked on the door but there was no response. She then sought assistance from neighbours, who helped her to force the door open,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
Upon entering the house, the woman reportedly searched the rooms and discovered Ngwenya hanging in the spare bedroom.
“The now deceased was found hanging from a roof truss using an electric cable,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
A police report was subsequently made.
Asst Insp Ndlovu urged members of the public not to resort to suicide when faced with emotional, financial, family or other challenges.
“Members of the public who feel overwhelmed or are experiencing difficulties are encouraged to seek help and speak out to trusted family members, friends, pastors, counsellors, community leaders or other appropriate support persons,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
