A 34-YEAR-OLD Rusape woman has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after being convicted of possessing crystal methamphetamine.
Talent Sagwete received a 24-month sentence from the Rusape Magistrates Court, with six months suspended for five years on the condition of good behaviour, leaving her to serve an effective 18 months.
The court heard that detectives from the CID in Rusape received a tip-off regarding Sagwete’s possession of crystal meth at her home in Vengere.
Following the tip-off, police conducted a search and found 18 sachets of the drug hidden under a mattress in her bedroom.
The seized substances, weighing 0.008kg, were tested and confirmed to be crystal methamphetamine.
The court also ordered that the drugs be forfeited to the State and destroyed by fire.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to combating drug and substance abuse, which continues to harm families and communities.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) urged the public, particularly the youth, to avoid using or possessing crystal meth and other illicit drugs, warning that offenders will face severe penalties.
