A Harare woman was yesterday granted a protection order against her violent son, who is serving a prison sentence for assaulting her.
Tendai Chikumba pleaded with the court to bar Calisto Mandaza from returning to her house after he serves his sentence.
She accused Calisto of taking drugs into the house.
“My son is a drug addict and it has really affected our relationship. He assaults me and sells my property. At one point he boiled water and threatened to scald me,” said Chikumba.
She said he is currently in prison after he was convicted of assaulting her.
“He assaulted me with a brick and hit my hand, that’s why he is in prison right now.
“Whenever he is at home, he spends the whole day in his room and ends up urinating on the walls, and now the whole house stinks. I am now living in fear of what he will do to me when he is out of prison.”
However, Calisto refuted his mother’s accusations.
“She is lying, I had a misunderstanding with my brother and she intervened, that’s how she got injured.
“She is my mother and I can never imagine harassing her. There is no way I would kill her. I am really sorry for everything. I now know what is good and bad,” he said.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi ordered Calisto not to threaten or assault his mother, and not to go to his mother’s house again.
