A WOMAN from Harare, Trisha Mutasa, has dragged her husband, Tapiwa Sakupwanya, to the Harare Civil Court on allegations of abuse.
Mutasa said Sakupwanya subjects her to physical and emotional abuse and also destroys their household property.
She said the abuse had escalated to a point where she feared not only for her own life but also for the life of her child.
“I no longer feel safe in my own home. Every day, I fear he might carry out his threats. I am scared for my child’s life,” Mutasa said.
“He emotionally abuses me to the extent that he comes to my workplace uninvited”.
She also claimed that Sakupwanya had, on several occasions, smashed their household property during violent outbursts, leaving her and the child traumatised.
On one occasion, Mutasa said, he allegedly confiscated her mobile phone, accusing her of infidelity, resulting in her failing to communicate with friends and family.
She said efforts to address the situation have failed, as every attempt at dialogue has ended with more insults and violence.
At one point, Mutasa said she wanted to report the matter to the police, but she claimed her husband threatened her even further, saying she would regret involving authorities in their private affairs.
“I cannot continue to live under such torment. I am asking for peace, for safety, and for the well-being of my child,” she said.
In default, the court favoured Mutasa and granted her the protection order.
