A WOMAN tricked her sister into believing she was taking her from their rural home so that she would go to school in an urban area when the reality was that she wanted to use her as compensation to her husband for her cheating shenanigans.
It was the start of a horror ordeal which would see the girl being a helpless victim of her sister’s husband who raped her on a number of occasions and even threatened to kill her when she tried to escape.
Her sister conveniently left the two together, in their one-roomed house in Gwanda, for about a month to create the environment where her husband would repeatedly rape her.
The sexual attacks continued even after she returned from her rural home and some of them were conducted in her presence.
She would give her a red concoction to drink after her husband had raped her.
The 49-year-old woman from Binga has been arrested and was brought before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges or alternatively facilitating rape.
According to National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), it is alleged that sometime in August 2013, the accused person took her sister to stay with her in Gwanda on the pretext that she would send her to school.
In October that same year, the accused person went back home to Binga, leaving her sister and her husband staying in one room.
The sister never went to school as had been promised.
When the complainant asked her brother-in-law why she was not going to school, as promised, he revealed to her that his sister had cheated on him and had then devised a plot to give the complainant to him as compensation.
The two stayed together in Gwanda from October 2013 to November 2013 and the man had sexual intercourse with her several times without her consent.
When the accused person returned to Gwanda, her husband continued to rape her, even in her presence.
The court heard that the complainant tried to escape in August 2021 but she was caught and brought back to Gwanda.
The accused person’s husband threatened to kill her.
She eventually managed to escape during the same month and informed her parents of her ordeal but nothing was done about it.
The complainant made a police report on June 17, this year, in Bulawayo.
The accused was remanded in custody to October 4.
