Woman impersonates police, extorts money

counts of impersonation and extortion when she appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Rumbidzayi Mugwagwa.
She was remanded in custody to February 13 for continuation of trial.
The complainants in the matter are Tafirei Gonese of Unit F and Alois Mandivanzira of Unit C in Chitungwiza.
Prosecutor Ms Kareni Kunaka said on January 27 this year in Unit C, Charlie and her four accomplices still at large were driving a Toyota Serena with registration number ACM 6304.
They claimed to be police officers on patrol to arrest music pirates.
They approached Gonese who was repairing a computer belonging to Maclean Chifamba and produced IDs as police officers.
They told the two that they were arresting music pirates.
Charlie and her accomplices ordered Gonese and Chifamba to board the car after telling them they were under arrest.
They told them that they were being taken to Harare Central Police Station for detention.
The quartet drove their car heading to Chikwanha shops and parked it, before releasing Chifamba while Gonese remained behind.
After that, Charlie and her accomplices drove back to Gonese’s place indicating that they wanted to search his house for more evidence.
On their way, Charlie induced Gonese to pay US$50. She physically searched him and took away the money.
Upon arrival at Gonese’s place, they dropped him and picked another victim, Alois Mandivanzira who had parked his haulage truck outside his house.
They produced their fake police cards and “arrested” Mandivanzira before driving with him towards Chikwanha shops.
While at the shops, they took his drivers’ licence and asked him to pay US$350 so that they would set him free.
He paid the money and left his drivers’ licence.
Mandivanzira then went to Chitungwiza police station to look for his driver’s licence where he filed a report after discovering he had been conned.
Mandivanzira spotted Charlie in Unit C a few days after the incident and caused her arrest.
