Woman in court for accusing tenant of witchcraft

Collette Mukome
ACCUSING another tenant of being a witch landed a 20-year-old Sakubva woman in court.

Perpertual Mukonda pleaded guilty to calling Elizabeth Mukoyi a witch.

They are both tenants at House Number 153, New Dangare, Sakubva.

It was the State’s case led by Mr Donald Mudadirwa that on October 6, Mukoyi was sitting on the veranda with a friend when Mukonda arrived home.

Mukonda shouted at Mukoyi that she was not afraid of Mukoyi’s witchcraft shenanigans.

She said she was aware that Mukoyi was having an affair with his son and knew that she was in possession of snakes, cats and owls.

Mukonda, however, told the court that she called the complainant a witch because she had been provoked.

“She provoked me so I was shouting back. She told me I was a prostitute receiving HIV treatment. I was hurt and that is why I shouted back,” she said.

Mr Poterai Gwezhira ordered Mukonda to pay $100 fine or serve 20 days in prison.
