Woman in mbanje case granted bail

Masekesa was granted $100 bail and ordered to report on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to the Criminal Investigations Department (Drug Section) by Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Godwin Sengweni.

She was also ordered to reside at her given address until the finalisation of her case and is to surrender her travel documents to the Clerk of Court.
Mr Goodluck Katenaire for the State is alleging that Masekesa was last week found in possession of 59kgs of mbanje leading to her arrest.

Detectives from CID Drugs Section in Bulawayo received a tip-off from members of the public that she was dealing in mbanje.
The court heard that the officers then conducted a surveillance of her house and on the day she was arrested she left her house carrying a black bag, which had two plastic bags full of mbanje.

The police later searched her house and allegedly found the illicit drug weighing 59kg.
Masekesa told the court the mbanje belonged to her husband and the bag, which she was carrying at the time of her arrest, also belonged to her husband who had sent her to give it to someone.
Mr Tavengwa Hara of Hara and partners is defending Masekesa.
