AN 18-year-old woman from Plumtree has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting a 42-year-old man with a bottle at a local night club.
Queneth Dube, of 1935 Hlalani Kuhle houses, a mother of a three-month old baby, was convicted on her own plea of guilty when she appeared before Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa facing a charge of assaulting Mr Mzingaye Ncube.
Three months of her sentence were suspended for five years on condition that she does not within that period commit an offence of the same nature.
The State case presented by Mr Medica Tshuma was that on 3 June at about 11 pm, Dube and the complainant, a nurse at Plumtree High School were at Dumms Palace Nightclub in the border town.
Mr Ncube was drinking beer while Dube was dancing while holding an empty beer bottle.
A misunderstanding ensued between the two and Dube struck Mr Ncube with the bottle on his head, resulting in him being injured.
The matter was reported to the police leading to her arrest.
In mitigation Dube said she struck Mr Ncube by mistake.
