DISCIPLINING an 80-year-old woman for leaving home without notifying other family members has backfired for a Zvishavane woman as she is facing murder charges.
Emma Mafura (67) allegedly beat up her partially-blind sister Manyei Madhara resulting in her death a few days later and the post mortem confirmedA� assault as the cause.
It is reported that on 29 August, Mafura of Chief Mapanzure area beat up the now deceased Madhara with a thick stick all over the body and as a result sustained injuries including on the head.
Madhara then passed away on 4 September around 5am at their homestead.
The now accused then rushed to report the matter to the village headman Tod Mapanda citing that her sister had died as a result of high blood pressure as it was giving her problems.
However, the village head never bought her cover up story as he was aware of the assault which the now deceased had reported to him.
The matter was reported to the police, resulting in the arrest of the accused and the deceaseda��s body was taken for post-mortem where it was confirmed she had died due to head injuries.
Appearing before Zvishavane magistrate Shepherd Mjanja, Mafura stunned the court when she revealed that she beat up her sister as a way of disciplining her.
She said it was after she had disappeared from home without notifying anyone where she was going. Upon her return, she decided to discipline her so that she never moved alone since she was partially blind.
The accused was remanded in custody to 22 September.
