Woman marries sistera��s son

A Mberengwa woman married her nephew (sistera��s son) after a prophet told the two their marriage would end their problems.

The bizarre incident was heard when Patricia Nkomo (26) and Garikanani Muzini (32) appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Tavengwa Sangster facing charges of incest. They pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Sangster slapped them with a nine-month jail term each, wholly suspended on condition they performs 315 hours of community service.

Muzini will do his community service at Makuva High School while Nkomo will labour at Makuva Clinic.

In their defense, the two said they were tricked by a certain prophet to fall in love if they wanted their woes to end.

a�?Your worship, a certain prophet told us to be in a relationship so as to bring our problems to an end. We had no idea he was lying to us,a�? said Muzini.

Circumstances surrounding the matter are that between March 2013 and 2016 Muzini and Nkomo being aunt and nephew unlawfully had sexual intercourse knowing that they were related within the prohibited degrees of a sexual relationship.

In March 2013, Amina Phiri discovered that her daughter Patricia Nkomo was pregnant and was told that Muzini was responsible for the pregnancy.

Sensing danger, the two a�?lovebirdsa�? eloped to staying together as husband and wife.

Jenifa Muzini (Garikaia��s mother) then reported the matter to the police leading to their arrest.

The two were brought to court and found guilty of having sexual intercourse within a prohibited degree of relationship as defined in section 75(2)(i) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act chapter 9:23. Wadzanayi Shayanewako prosecuted.
