AN elderly Harare woman appeared in court facing charges of possessing a pangolin.
Violet Kaponda was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.
The court heard that police officers from the CID Flora and Fauna Unit were tipped off that Kaponda was in possession of a live pangolin which she was selling in Mt Hampden.
Detectives posed as potential buyers and negotiated the price with Kaponda in her car.
She then went into a maize field and brought a white sack to the car.
The other detectives then pounced on her and searched the white sack, and found a dead pangolin.
It is believed the pangolin died when it was hidden in the maize field.
Its street value was US$5 000.
Thomas Chanakira appeared for the State.
