A 25-YEAR-OLD Chipinge woman was arrested last Saturday after she was found in possession of more than seven kilograms of dagga during a police roadblock in Middle Sabi.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said Delight Sithole of Madhuku Village, under Chief Musikavanhu, was intercepted by police while traveling aboard a truck from Manzvire to Tanganda.

“ZRP Middle Sabi received an anonymous tip-off around 0945 hours, alerting them that a female passenger had boarded the truck carrying bags suspected to contain dagga.

“Police immediately mounted a roadblock at the 255km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road as part of an ongoing operation code-named ‘No to Illegal Guns, Toy Guns and Dangerous Weapons’,” he said.

Ass Insp Chinyoka said when the truck was stopped and searched, officers found a black satchel and a blue travelling bag stashed with three plastic bags of dagga.

“The truck driver, 39-year-old Ellington Shoko, told the police that the luggage belonged to Sithole.

“Sithole was arrested on the spot. The recovered dagga was later weighed at Chibuwe Post Office and had a total mass of 7.275 kilograms.

“The case is however, still under investigation,” he said.

Ass Insp Chinyoka commended the swift response by ZRP Middle Sabi officers.

“The arrest was a direct result of community cooperation and we want to thank members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the recovery of these drugs,” he said.

“The fight against drugs is one of our top priorities as a province. We have intensified roadblocks, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations to deal with both drug trafficking and smuggling.

“Offenders will face the full wrath of the law.

“Drug and substance abuse is destroying the lives of many young people. We are appealing to parents, schools and communities to guide their children, monitor their behaviour, and work with us to stop this problem before it destroys more lives.”
