A 36 year-old woman allegedly forced a neighbour’s 10 year-old son to test the presence of electricity by placing a detonator power cable in his mouth, blowing his teeth, chest and fingers in the process.Maria Nyamawacha, who was appearing before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima, was charged with negligently causing serious bodily harm.

Mr Serima granted Nyamawacha $100 bail indicating that the court failed to find compelling reasons to keep her in continued detention.

Allegations leading to Nyamawacha’s arrest are that on December 30 the boy was playing with Nyamawacha’s son at her home and she allegedly called the boy and instructed him to test the detonator electric currency connected to her solar by putting the power cable on his tongue which then exploded on doing so.

The court heard that the boy went home and explained to his mother what had happened to him. His mother went to Nyamawacha’s house to look for the boy’s missing fingers.

They could not find them as Nyamachawa had allegedly concealed the evidence.

A report was made to the police leading to her arrest.
