A SOUTH African-based Zimbabwean woman was raped on her birthday by a stranger in the Highlands neigbourhood of Harare.
The 23-year-old’s birthday party ended on a sad nore when she was raped by Takudzwa Kembo.
Takudzwa is a friend of the boyfriend of the woman’s sister.
The woman celebrated her birthday and retired to bed.
She left the door unlocked and was in a drunken state.
Takudzwa entered the room and raped her without protection.
The woman woke up and screamed for help.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case appealing for information that may lead to Takudzwa’s arrest.
“Police are investigating a rape case involving a woman who was celebrating her birthday,” said Insp Chakanza.
“On January 25, 2025, between 0500 hours and 0600, hours the complainant went to sleep after her birthday party.
“The complainant, who was very drunk, was awoken by the accused’s action.
“She pushed him away and he fell from the bed.
“The accused person fled from the crime scene.
“The complainant was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Adult Rape Clinic for medical examinations,” said Insp Chakanza.
