Woman skins python, arrested for possession of its hide

POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested a 28-year-old woman, Sindisiwe Sibanda of Emthunzini, for being found in possession of a python skin.

According to a police statement, on Tuesday, November 04 2025 at around 8AM, police received a tip-off that Sibanda was skinning a python at her residence.

Acting on the information, officers proceeded to her home and discovered a python skin, approximately one metre in length, spread on the ground near the doorstep.

During questioning, Sibanda admitted that she had killed and skinned the python after finding it in a nearby bush and had burnt all the flesh. She was subsequently arrested.

Bulawayo Deputy Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, thanked members of the public for providing information that led to the arrest and warned the community against killing, skinning, or trading in specially protected animals.

“A crime against our wildlife is a crime against our nation,” she said.
