MIDLANDS police have named a suspect after the body of a 22-year-old woman was found at a cemetery yard last Saturday.
Police in Redcliff say they are looking for Freddy Savanhu (30), over the killing of Miss Thandiwe Ndlovu, who was apparently stoned to death.
Investigators say the two lovebirds were seen walking on a footpath that cuts through Torwood Cemetery, some 14km outside Kwekwe, minutes before Miss Ndlovu’s body was discovered.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told Chronicle: “The two lovebirds walked through the cemetery path and were exchanging harsh words. There is a bushy area close to the cemetery where a resident of Torwood, Mr Kelvin Mutangi (25), was busy cutting down poles for fencing.
“He heard voices of two people yelling at each other but did not bother to go and investigate. He left the place for his home and returned after about 30 minutes to continue with his work.”
Insp Mahoko said as Mr Mutangi walked along a footpath that cuts across the cemetery, he heard the sound of heavy breathing and went to investigate.
Mr Mutangi found Ndlovu lying on her stomach with her head tilted to the left.
“She was bleeding from the nose, stomach and ears,” Insp Mahoko added.
By the time police arrived at the scene, she was dead. Her body is being held at Kwekwe District Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Insp Mahoko said investigators believe a bloodied stone found next to Miss Ndlovu’s body may have been used in the murder.
Detectives are leading the search for prime suspect, Savanhu.
“People who have information that may help the police locate the suspect should report to the nearest police station to them. They can also make use of our suggestion boxes dotted around the country and drop information that could help us bring the suspect to book,” said Insp Mahoko.
