A Harare woman who claimed maintenance from her ex-husband at the Civil Court was told to be realistic.

Tadiwanashe Vambe took her ex-husband, Charles Sande, to court claiming US$80 for the upkeep of their minor child.

Tadiwanashe told the court that they divorced recently and he was not providing for his child.

“We divorced two months ago and he is not paying educational expenses for our child enrolled in Eastlea,” said Tadiwanashe.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira asked Tadiwanashe why the child was enrolled in Eastlea when she stays in Glenview 8.

Tadiwanashe told the magistrate that things were previously well.

The magistrate then told her to live within her means.

Charles’ lawyer told the court that he was not in a position to pay what Tadiwanashe was demanding.

“Charles cannot afford the US$80, but US$50. He has other expenses, including rent, food and family.”

Tadiwanashe disputed the submission, saying Charles uses company accommodation.

Charles’s lawyer also said his client had other cases pending in the Criminal Court and Tadiwanashe was aware of it.

Magistrate Sharon Mashavira granted Tadiwanashe US$50.
