Woman up for attempted murder collapses in court

The incident occurred in the corridor as Nobuhle Maphosa (22) of Number 70 Gwanda Road, Sunninghill, was being escorted to court by the police.

She started trembling in front of the clerk’s office and as people gathered to witness what was happening, she collapsed. Maphosa was later carried to the police post within Tredgold Building before being taken to court later after she had recovered.

Maphosa was not formally charged with attempted murder and assault when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Shepherd Mjanja.

She was remanded in custody to 21 August and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Allegations against Maphosa are that on Wednesday last week, she stabbed a 30-year-old woman, Ms Beauty Mangezvo, with a knife.

Ms Mangezvo was looking for a house to rent and was allegedly offered a room by Maphosa’s live-in boyfriend.

This did not go down well with Maphosa who suspected that her boyfriend was having an affair with the woman, the court heard.

She then allegedly confronted Ms Mangezvo and ordered her to move out of the house. It is alleged that Maphosa confronted Ms Mangezvo at about 11pm, the night she moved in.

Ms Mangezvo then allegedly locked herself in the room until the next morning.

In the morning at about 7.30am, Maphosa allegedly went back armed with a knife intending to forcibly drive Ms Mangezvo out.

The court heard that Ms Mangezvo fled from the scene with Maphosa in pursuit.

Ms Mangezvo allegedly tripped and fell, upon which Maphosa allegedly stabbed her three times on the head using the knife. The court heard that the knife broke in the process.

The accused also allegedly stabbed Ms Mangezvo once on the left thumb.

She sustained serious injuries on the head and thumb.

Mr Masimba Saruwaka appeared for the State.
