A Harare woman was last week fined US$80 by a Mbare magistrate for whipping a co-wife in a polygamous relationship with an electric cord after a heated argument in Budiriro, Harare. Magistrate Shelly Zvenyika slapped Monica Mudoko (21), the second wife, with a one month prison sentence with an option of US$80 fine for assaulting the first wife Florence Dzemwa (36).

Mudoko stays in Epworth while Dzemwa lives at number 3570 Nzou Drive in Budiriro 2.
The court heard that on October 24 this year, Mudoko went to Budiriro to see her husband who was on a routine stay with Dzemwa.
Dzemwa was irked by the visit and asked her to leave. When Mudoko was leaving, she asked their husband to escort her, which did not go down well with Dzemwa who followed the two resulting in an altercation.

The court heard that Mudoko took an electric cord and whipped Dzemwa several times on the legs resulting in her sustaining severe bruises.
Dzemwa later reported the case to the police leading to the arrest of Mudoko.

It is in the state case that Mudoko had no right to act in the manner she did.
