A BINGA man yesterday told a maintenance court that his wife’s love for city life had caused their break-up.
Zacharia Mwinde was dragged to the maintenance court by his estranged wife Sikholiwe Moyo.
Moyo pleaded with magistrate Adelaide Mbeure to grant her claim of $130 for the upkeep of her two minor children.
Moyo told the court that her husband had gone crazy over a domestic worker in Bulawayo’s Hillside suburb.
“My husband started moving furniture in bits after he started seeing this maid. He eventually moved out of our home leaving me with my daughter. I beg this court to force him to bring back my son who is in Binga with my in-laws because he did not pay lobola for me,” she said.
Mwinde in his defence told the court that he did not cheat but simply took another wife since Moyo refused to live at his rural home.
“I told my wife to go stay in Binga where I’m building a home for our children and take care of the homestead but she refused. I then told her that I will take another wife,” said Mwinde.
“She has been threatening my new wife sending insulting messages. I have been suspended because she keeps coming to my workplace causing havoc. My bosses are tired of her and I beg the court to issue a protection order,” he said.
Mwinde told the court that he earns $200 and he could only afford to pay $20 for the upkeep of his daughter and sends $30 to Binga for his son.
Magistrate Mbeure advised Mwinde to apply for a protection order at another court. Mwinde was ordered to pay $50 as child support for his daughter.
