A WOMAN lost her two children, aged two and three, who drowned in a well in Marange while she was cleaning her house.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, identified the two minors as Destiny Tsaura (2) and Dorcas Machokwani (3).
They were both from Dhingire Village, under Chief Marange.
Comm Nyathi said the incident occurred on Thursday at around 9am.
The children’s mother, Rutendo Shatirwa (30), was cleaning the family home while the children were playing outside.
“On September 17, at around 9am, Rutendo Shatirwa (30), the mother of the two juveniles, was cleaning her house whilst her children were playing.
“She went outside to look for them and discovered that they were not there.
“She thought they were at her grandmother’s place,” said Comm Nyathi.
She searched for her children in the surrounding area, including a nearby maize field.
“That is where she discovered the two minors floating in a water well,” said Comm Nyathi.
She immediately informed her husband, Gibson Tsaaura, who reported the matter to police at Marange Police Station.
Police attended the scene and retrieved the bodies.
“The bodies were subsequently taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for post-mortem examinations.”
Police have urged parents and guardians to closely monitor young children, particularly around potentially dangerous areas such as open wells and other water sources.
