A BULAWAYO man who claimed in court that women who fail to show love to their husbands deserved to be beaten escaped with a caution. Unmarried Nkululeko Nkiwane, 51, of Njube was appearing before a Western Commonage magistrate facing charges of domestic violence after he assaulted his niece Nothabo Nkiwane, also of Njube.
In his defence, Nkiwane said his niece deserved to be punished, accusing her of failing to give tender love to her husband. “Women who cannot love their husbands deserve to be beaten. Nowadays most women are more corrupt than loving. They do not deserve to be married,” he said.
Asked if he was married, Nkiwane said he did not want to get married. “I am not married and do not have any children because women are corrupt. No one is prepared to tender love to me,” he told magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo.
Prosecuting Kenneth Shava said on an unknown date this month the accused assaulted his niece with an iron bar several times on the body and once on the head. “The complainant sustained a cut on his head and swollen body. A medical report can be produced for exhibition,” he said.
Shava said the complainant reported the matter leading to Nkiwane’s arrest. The magistrate cautioned and discharged him.
