Women get skills training

One hundred and twenty women from across Manicaland were yesterday conferred with certificates after completing skills training organised by the Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches and Zanu PF Women’s League.

The 120 women have now become trainers, who will train other women in their communities.

Zanu PF national Women’s League Secretary Cde Mabel Chinomona urged the women to go and train others in their wards to ensure development reaches all corners of the country.

She said the skills training was in line with Government’s National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which strives to provide sustainable livelihoods to communities. Women should also support other women in business.

“The programme is in sync with President Mnangagwa’s agenda of uplifting all citizens economically,” said Cde Chinomona.

“We are calling on all women from all sectors of life to unite and make sure we empower everyone. The main agenda is to empower every woman so that she becomes self-sufficient. By so doing, we will contribute to the Vision 2030 agenda immensely.”

She said the programme was national, with the Women’s League was going around the country training women regardless of political or religious affiliation.

The trainers were trained on how to make products like liquid soap, washing soap, shoe polish and floor polish, among others.

Speaking at the same event, Women’s League Secretary of Administration Cde Monica Mutsvangwa challenged the women to make full use of the skills they acquired.

“You have been empowered so you need to empower other women out there. Make use of the skills that you gained here and show the world that a woman can also do it,” she said.

Women should take advantage of the skills training and work hard to contribute to the national economy.

She urged women to be disciplined, saying the party wanted disciplined cadres determined to work towards economic development.

“You have been given this chance by the President. Prove yourselves and work hard so that everyone knows that empowering women is the way to go,” she said.

Government will keep working on empowering the church, she said, “The President always seeks counsel from church leaders because he knows that when you are a leader, you should always seek counsel from your people.”
