graduated after undergoing a business management course.
The ceremony was held at the Small City Hall in Bulawayo on Friday. The mayor of Bulawayo, Councillor Thaba Moyo, was guest of honour.
He said he supported women empowerment as it was vital in developing the nation.
“We support such efforts as it means the development and empowerment of women which would eventually develop the nation,” Clr Moyo said.
He commended organisations such as CHEN for training women in skills that enhance their living standards.
The executive director of CHEN, Mrs Tebitha Kambiro, said their vision was to empower women. Their courses catered for women only.
“We teach women how to run their businesses professionally and we give their proposals to donors who fund their businesses,” she said.
“Our vision is to empower women who will in turn help orphans, widows and street kids to come out of their poverty.”
Mrs Kambiro urged women in the city to pool resources together and support each other in setting up and running businesses so that the nation prospers.
“Bulawayo women should help each other in setting up and support of their businesses. This is to help the vulnerable and for the prosperity of the nation,” she said.
Mrs Kambiro said to curb corruption, the businesses are inspected first to see that they exist before they receive the funds.
“We know that there can be dishonest people out there. Their businesses are inspected first to curb money landing in the wrong hands,” she said.
Graduates said they were happy with what they learnt but the problem was securing capital to set up their businesses. They said it was hard to gets funds and called on all concerned to support them.
“The regulations for one to receive money are too tight because some of us are just starting. We do not have the capital for our businesses,” said a woman who declined to be named.
The women were trained in a number of courses, including business communication, basic accounting, HIV and Aids and conflict management.
