Women’s golf team Kenya bound

THE Zimbabwe women’s golf team will leave the country for the All — Africa Challenge Trophy set for the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Course in Nairobi, Kenya, tomorrow morning carrying high hopes of doing well.The Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union named Aullia Alfazema, Yolanda Mubaiwa and Shamiso Makwara as Zimbabwe’s representatives at this years’ event.

The tourney was last held in Botswana in 2012.

ZLGU president Nancy Dube said they are hopeful of doing well.

“We have assembled a very strong team which can do well playing against other top players and I hope they will fly the flag high.
“The team has been practising at Chapman and they will leave tomorrow (today) morning returning on June 16.

“We have capable players who can come up with good results and I wish them all the best,” said Dube.

Botswana, Angola, Egypt, Gabon, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Reunion, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Swaziland, Togo, Uganda and Zambia are expected to be in Kenya for the prestigious event.

The 2012 edition was won by powerhouse South Africa with a 24-shot margin ahead of Zambia who were on 452.
Zimbabwe finished third on 464.

Clair Minter, Loice Chingono and Batsirai Tilowakuti represented the country at Phakalane Golf Club in Botswana in 2012.
South Africa has dominated the Team Event. The AACT will be followed by the Kenya Ladies Open Amateur Strokeplay championship, a 54-hole event at Royal Nairobi on June 14 and 15.
