Women’s League preps advanced

Preparations for the Zanu-PF Women’s League annual conference are at an advanced stage with more than 4 000 delegates expected to attend.
The conference is the first national event by the women’s movement since Zanu-PF’s landslide victory in the July 31, 2013 harmonised elections.Zanu-PF Women’s League secretary Cde Oppah Muchinguri said the conference has been scheduled for August 20-23 in Harare to ensure that it will not coincide with the Sadc Summit of Heads of State and Government.

“We set up sub-committees which are working hard to ensure that the conference will be a success.
“The reports we are getting from the recently elected members in our provincial party structures and those who were already within are quite pleasing.

“We already have everything in place and now await approval from Zanu-PF national chairman, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, on some of the recommendations we had made on the conference,” she said.

Cde Muchinguri said the sub committees are expected to meet this Friday and iron out outstanding issues.
“We are geared for the national event, an opportunity which we are going to use to strengthen the structures within the party while also looking at other areas which need to be revamped,” she said.

Representatives from progressive women’s organisations and groups from different countries such as Frelimo (Mozambique), ANC (South Africa), and Swapo (Namibia) are expected to grace the three-day event.

The conference will, among other things, celebrate women who voted for the party, resulting in a landslide victory against the MDC-T and other parties.
