Words have power

Pauline Matanda

“DEATH and life are in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat its fruits.” — Proverbs 18:21

Mark 11:23 reads: “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”

The above scriptures remind us that words have power. Whatever we speak can bring life or death into the lives of those around us.

It is called the power of the tongue. What do you believe? Say it!

Others said: “The sky is not even the limit.” What do you believe concerning your marriage, your children, your career, your business, your prayer life and your ministry? Say it. Confess what you believe, not what is on the ground. Remember, what is not seen is more powerful than what is seen.

On your deathbed, confess life and good health. In that barrenness, confess fruitfulness. Being hunted by Saul day in, day out in order to kill him, David confessed that he “would not die but live to proclaim the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living”.

He spent the greater part of his life on the throne, confessing the goodness of the Lord.

The power of the tongue made Jacob to unintentionally place a curse on his wife, Rachel.

Genesis 31:32 reads: “With whomever you find your gods, let him not live, or Jacob did not know that Rachel stole his father’s gods.” It appeared nothing would happen. But in Genesis 35:18-19, Rachel died while giving birth to Benjamin.

The power of the tongue made the Israelites write themselves off and call themselves grasshoppers in Numbers 13:33 and in Numbers 14:28. God said to them: “As you have said in my ears so will I do to you, and all of them perished in the wilderness.”

If you cannot speak anything positive regarding your situation, you would rather hold your tongue. Do not be like the Israelites who called themselves “grasshoppers” when God had believed in them to conquer Jericho.

Situations should not allow you to change your confessions. Faced with the giant Goliath, David did not change his confession.

Believe it and confess it.

If you can crawl, you can walk. lf you can walk, you can run. If you can run, you can sprint, and if you can sprint, you can fly. If you believe it, you can accomplish it. Confess it and see it come to pass.

Your prayer for today should be: “Dear God, please forgive me for all the negative confessions l have said concerning my life and that of others.”
