Work on Airport Road resumes

Workmen were observed working on the 2,5km stretch from Harare Drive to Harare International Airport where they are compacting the tar surface.
In a recent interview, town clerk Dr Tendai Mahachi said council was in the process of paying outstanding debts.

“We are paying them. We pay for each phase,” he said.
Dr Mahachi said the relocation of water pipes delayed resumption of the construction.
“We are trying to take care of our water mains. We want to ensure that when dualisation resumes the mains would be out of our way,” he said.

Augur Investments chairman Mr Ken Sharpe had confirmed work would start in mid November.
“We have made major progress in resolving the impasse with EMA and also the City of Harare. Harare City are in the process of completing the outstanding payment and we will be back at work on the road by mid November,” he said.

Work on the road had temporarily stopped following a payment dispute.
The project has taken longer than was anticipated and now there are fears work would be affected by the onset of the rains.
