WORK on the Chivi-Mhandamabwe road linking Beitbridge border post to central and western parts of the country has resumed with priming starting tomorrow, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development has said.
The resumption follows Government’s intervention after sealing a deal with the contractor, Bitumen World, to complete outstanding works.
Completion of the project dovetails with Government’s Vision 2030 thrust as the road is a key artery for commerce linking Beitbridge border post to central and western parts of the country.
“Priming is a vital step in road construction that occurs after preparing the roadbed and before, Chivi-Mhandamabwe priming will start tomorrow,” said Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development on their twitter handle.
The road will be of great benefit to smallholder irrigation farmers at Chobwe and surrounding areas who would be able to speedily move their produce to the market, boosting their income levels.
Chibi turnoff was granted business centre status by President Mnangagwa and the moves paves way for its expansion with Chivi Rural District Council already pursing plans to create Zimbabwe‘s first smart city centre.
