A civic society organisation, Zimbabwe Citizens Forum (ZCF), has called on youths in Zimbabwe to grace an anti-sanctions workshop today at Stodart Hall in Mbare, as preparations for anti-sanctions activities on October 25 gather momentum.
In an interview, ZCF national coordinator Mr Taurai Kandishaya said the workshop was meant to enlighten youths on the effects of illegal sanctions imposed on the country by the West at the turn of the millennium.
“What we want to do at this workshop is to expose the roots of the current economic crisis that we are facing in Zimbabwe because these people did not impose these sanctions so that we become a paradise. They knew that when they sanction us, we will live in isolation,” he said.
“Zimbabwe is under illegal sanctions imposed by the United States and the reason why Zimbabwe was put under these illegal sanctions is because it practised its sovereignty, which is right of determination in the matter of redistribution of land.
“It cannot be justified that these sanctions came as a result of human rights abuse. We need to unpack the roots of the current economic crisis. Where did they emanate from, who caused them, so that when the people of Zimbabwe want to demonstrate, they will know who their actual enemy is, not the person they perceive to be their enemy.”
Last month, SADC declared October 25 as solidarity day against illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe and resolved to conduct various activities in their respective countries on that day to resoundingly call for the immediate removal of the sanctions.
Mr Kandishaya said presenters at the workshop include Zanu-PF deputy secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Lewis Matutu, political activist Linda Masarira, Civic Society and Churches Joint Forum national coordinator Ms Abigail Mupambi and political analyst Mr Tafadzwa Mugwadi.
