JOHANNESBURG. – Daine Klate is set to become the latest managerial victim of trigger-happy Chippa United following an underwhelming start to the season.
Klate oversaw Wednesday defeat to champions Mamelodi Sundowns in which Chippa put in a gallant effort only to lose the match in injury time when Peter Shalulile scored.
The result left Chippa stuck at the bottom of the standings with a single win from the opening seven games.
According to well-placed sources, Klate was not present at yesterday’s training session, where the club pointed out that ‘the coach is not there anymore’.
No indications were given as to what will happen with Klate, who has previously worked as the club’s reserve team coach.
The morning session was overseen by Morgan Mammila sat on the bench in place of Bafana July, who has been Klate’s right hand man, since the beginning of the season.
Chippa are expected to make an announcement on the latest developments on Klate considering the contractual logistics, but they have already been engaging prospective coaches.
Meanwhile, Pitso Mosimane has revealed his plans for the immediate future amid speculation linking him with a return to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
“I am just waiting for the right project because the mentality is not to jump at any offers at this stage of my career,” Mosimane told BBC Sport Africa in response to the rumours linking him with the Ahly post.
He added, “I had a great time in Egypt, made some good friends and remain proud of what we managed to achieve. I will not close any door and if the right project comes, then we’ll see where that takes us.”
Mosimane could also be in line to make a move East to Tanzania where he has been tenuously linked with the top job at Simba, who sacked head coach Zoran Manojlović earlier this week. – KickOff
