Zimpraise member cries foul

GOSPEL musician, Nicholas Chirunga, has expressed concern over promoters who prefer dealing only with established artistes.

The 39-year-old, who is behind most of  Zimpraise’s hit songs, urged promoters to invest in upcoming artistes.

In an interview with H-Metro, Chirunga said promoters were afraid of taking risks by investing in budding musicians, especially those in the gospel genre.

“To me, it seems as if they are afraid that gospel musicians, who are yet to make a name, are not worth their support.

“It takes time for a gospel musician to be in the limelight and it needs a few event organisers and promoters to give their full support to them.

“They are afraid even to host shows for them because they are afraid of suffering a loss.

“But, that’s how the industry grows,” said Chirunga.

Chirunga, who is a lead vocalist at Zimpraise, has released three albums to his name, with the recent one titled, Gwenya.

“Currently, my full attention is on the project we (Zimpraise) are working on with Joyous Celebration.

“After that project, I will then start to work on my live DVD recording with 10 tracks.

“I will release the Gwenya DVD sometime in December to avoid a clash with Zimpraise’s project which will be released in October,” said Chirunga.

He said it was his wish to collaborate with Judi Kay from Nigeria, Michael Mahendere among other contemporary musicians.

“Pastor Charles Charamba is one of those people who inspires me and I have learnt a lot from him,” he said.
